Dallas Cowboys

Larceny in the Round 3 slot lands the Cowboys a B-, Suamataia and all.

The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kingsley Suamataia fell into the Round 3 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The Powers-Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 52
In the 24th pick they get a blindside protector, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 39
Bralen Trice is a better player than pick 56 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 54
Steal is underselling it; Kingsley Suamataia at the 87th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
Braelon Allen at pick No. 124 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 178
They took Javon Baker at par in slot 174, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Marcus Harris · DL-EDGE · rank 228
A conviction pick on Marcus Harris at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Carson Steele · RB · rank 250
No edge and no loss on Carson Steele in No. 245; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
