You build a draft on nights like this. Layden Robinson had no business being available in No. 210, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. More want than need.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 64th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Blake Fisher in No. 95 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Brenden Rice in slot 96, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Theo Johnson in the 158th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Justin Rogers went about where he belonged in pick No. 161. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Layden Robinson in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
