If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Zakhari Franklin at slot 173 is 56 spots clear of where he belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get the heartbeat of the defense, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick 56 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Justin Eboigbe. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ray Davis at the 125th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Zakhari Franklin at Round 5, Pick 37 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Taulia Tagovailoa in slot 213, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Trey Wedig in pick 242 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
