They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.
That Murphy pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, with Jayden Daniels leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 9 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Cooper DeJean slipping to Round 2, Pick 4 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Brian Thomas Jr. at slot 40 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy bit of business in the 67th pick, where Christian Haynes graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Blake Corum in the 75th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Blake Fisher higher than pick No. 78, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Mekhi Wingo at par in No. 100, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A edge rusher of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Tyrice Knight at the 222nd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
