Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent the Round 7 slot on Trajan Jeffcoat, a name the board had a full 61 spots lower. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Landing Washington that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 24: Jonathon Brooks for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Brenden Rice a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Luke McCaffrey is a better player than the 173rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a wide receiver like Tahj Washington reach pick 213 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ryan Watts at No. 231 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Trajan Jeffcoat at the 242nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
