Start where it matters. The Giants took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
They are betting McCarthy proves the room right and everyone else wrong. With interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them. Landing Mitchell that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get their quarterback of the future, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quinyon Mitchell at slot 39 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in the 108th pick leaves interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots for later.
By-the-book stuff, Kalen King at Round 5, Pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Joe Milton III in pick No. 185, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
