Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
If Tupuola-Fetui pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Landing Devonshire that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick No. 34, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Patrick Paul in No. 48 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ja'Lynn Polk. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Xavier Legette in pick 58; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Khyree Jackson in slot 88, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
The board had cheaper options than Matt Goncalves at Round 4, Pick 1, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Ben Sinnott in the 104th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kitan Oladapo in the 117th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick No. 136, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Drake Nugent at Round 6, Pick 7, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow M.J. Devonshire was still sitting there in No. 229, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
