You could see the war room lean forward. Lander Barton at the Round 7 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Gordon II has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end at fair value.
Malaki Starks in the 38th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aireontae Ersery. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Restrepo at pick No. 69 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Darien Porter at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jared Wilson at pick 105 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Ollie Gordon II in Round 5, Pick 6, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 219 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Seth McLaughlin in slot 222 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at Round 7, Pick 22 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
