Whoever sat across the table from the Patriots should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They banked enough surplus on Knight to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The Wiley pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Morgan. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Malachi Corley in pick No. 39 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaylen Wright in pick 68 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Trey Benson higher than slot 104, and the running back fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Josh Newton in slot 136. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Johnny Wilson at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Jared Wiley at the 182nd pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Josh Proctor at pick 229. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tyrice Knight in the 239th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
