You could see the war room lean forward. Cody Simon at pick 240 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Jones Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Adding Ladd McConkey by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value.
Tyler Booker in Round 2, Pick 6 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Jalon Walker in pick No. 69 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Value said wait; Emery Jones Jr. in No. 105 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Ryan Fitzgerald was still sitting there in pick 219, and they pounced on premier specialist value. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They barely believed it either: Tahj Brooks still on the board at slot 222. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cody Simon in the 240th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
