Everything else got attention, and interior defensive lineman got none. That is a strange way for the Giants to leave a draft.
They are betting McConkey proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Getting Nelson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a potential shutdown corner. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Troy Fautanu at pick 38, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Ladd McConkey at pick No. 47, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Jack Sawyer at par in the 70th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in slot 106; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malik Mustapha. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jack Nelson is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
