Thirty-one other rooms let Brenden Rice slide, and the Chiefs were the ones holding the card at Round 5, Pick 37. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A quiet steal in pick 64: Xavier Worthy for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 95 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Johnny Wilson at No. 132 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Blake Fisher at the 159th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Brenden Rice still on the board at the Round 5 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
