You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Dwight McGlothern in No. 219. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Braswell. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 34
In the 25th overall pick they get a centerfielder for the defense, reach and all. More want than need.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 41. It fills a real need, too.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 58
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 57
The board fumbled Chris Braswell all the way to slot 88, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bucky Irving. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Max Melton · CB · rank 111
A quiet steal in the 125th pick: Max Melton for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Keith Randolph Jr. · DL-EDGE · rank 154
Keith Randolph Jr. in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Gabe Hall · DL · rank 207
Gabe Hall at the 203rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 217
Jase McClellan in Round 6, Pick 42 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 257
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dwight McGlothern this early at slot 219. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 251
They paid sticker price for Eric Gentry in pick No. 246, and that is fine. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
