The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The Jones pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
JC Latham slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Malachi Corley in pick No. 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 125 with a little surplus value in Kris Abrams-Draine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Good price on Tommy Eichenberg in Round 4, Pick 32, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ben Sinnott at the 136th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Luke McCaffrey at pick 137 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Grayson Murphy in the 182nd overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Christian Jones at Round 7, Pick 9 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
