Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Eli Stowers, the No. 53 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 75th pick.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Rucci lower, and that gap is the story.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Brazzell II. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Emmanuel Pregnon at No. 43 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tight end of that caliber at slot 75 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Sam Roush at par in pick No. 87, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ted Hurst in the 92nd overall pick, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mike Washington Jr. at Round 3, Pick 30 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Isaiah World, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach for Jalen Farmer in the 151st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nolan Rucci at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for Logan Taylor at No. 238, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
