The trade table was a mismatch, and the Vikings were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
It is not that Rakestraw Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Vikings had louder needs to answer first. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Means steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
They paid sticker price for Chop Robinson in slot 34, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A want over a need in the 39th pick: Ennis Rakestraw Jr. adds a cornerback while quarterback and tight end keeps waiting.
No drama and no debate, Beau Brade went about where he belonged in pick 109. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Leonard Taylor III at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
MarShawn Lloyd in the 130th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Javion Cohen at No. 156 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nice patience on Renardo Green, who had no business lasting to pick No. 166. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nathan Thomas in the 179th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Curtis Jacobs in the 190th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Bub Means slid further than he should have, and pick No. 210 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
