You build a draft on nights like this. Johnny Dixon had no business being available in pick No. 253, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
In pick 28 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in pick No. 50. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They did well to land Kris Jenkins in No. 53, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A surprising call. With quarterback and running back still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 8 on Payton Wilson, a linebacker they were not short of.
A quiet steal in the 120th pick: Matt Goncalves for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
James Williams at slot 125 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 126th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Johnny Wilson at the 138th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Beau Brade at the 139th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Roger Rosengarten in No. 140, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Dallin Holker in pick 152, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. at slot 161 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaheim Bell at Round 5, Pick 35 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in pick No. 210, with Justin Rogers worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Nathaniel Watson in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Steal is underselling it; Ro Torrence at No. 232 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Evan Williams at slot 245 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Johnny Dixon in Round 7, Pick 33 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
