Philadelphia Eagles

Larceny in pick No. 95 lands the Eagles a D-, Pearsall and all.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Eagles shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

The Eagles indulged a want in Wilson while a need in quarterback stayed open. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Pearsall to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The veteran additions, Breece Hall chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 11
In slot 9 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Ladd McConkey · WR · rank 36
Ladd McConkey in pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 37
Nice patience on Kamren Kinchens, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 58
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 70
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Payton Wilson adds a linebacker and leaves quarterback untouched.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Gabriel Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 85
A reasonable price with a little left over, Gabriel Murphy in Round 3, Pick 28. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 95
They paid sticker price for Zak Zinter in pick No. 92, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Ricky Pearsall · WR · rank 73
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ricky Pearsall in the 95th overall pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 96
Tyler Davis in the 96th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
Fair-plus on Bucky Irving, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.36 · Pick 99 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 97
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in No. 99. It fills a real need, too.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 100
Blake Fisher at pick 100 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.19 · Pick 119 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 121
Darius Robinson at Round 4, Pick 19 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · DJ James · CB · rank 113
DJ James is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 124
Justin Eboigbe slipping to No. 135 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.11 · Pick 147 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 149
No edge and no loss on Javion Cohen in the 147th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.13 · Pick 149 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 150
By-the-book stuff, Theo Johnson at the 149th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Grayson Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 168
A straight-up fair deal on Grayson Murphy at slot 163, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.28 · Pick 164 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 165
They took Cody Schrader at par in pick 164, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 167
Layden Robinson at Round 6, Pick 2 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Trey Knox · TE · rank 182
Good price on Trey Knox in the Round 6 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Ethan Driskell · OT · rank 186
Circle this one: Ethan Driskell at pick No. 204 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
