The Michael Pratt selection is the head-turner. The Chargers reached 32 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
That McCaffrey pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 20 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 41 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No drama and no debate, Ruke Orhorhoro went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 19. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Calen Bullock at par in No. 69, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
MarShawn Lloyd in the 101st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in the 103rd overall pick, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Michael Pratt at pick 106 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for Johnny Wilson in No. 119; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
AJ Barner at the 139th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They liked Jared Wiley enough to skip the value, taking him in the 183rd overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Luke McCaffrey at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at slot 256 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
