The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Devonshire value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman still on the board.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
If Jayden Daniels and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Tavion Sanders. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Adonai Mitchell slid further than he should have, and the 40th pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Kiran Amegadjie went about where he belonged in No. 67. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at edge rusher and interior defensive lineman sat open.
A conviction pick on James Williams at slot 110 that the board grades a round light. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jacob Cowing at the 152nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Tykee Smith in the 158th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cody Schrader at pick 184. The roster fit checks out.
Taking M.J. Devonshire in slot 222 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
