Washington Commanders

Grand theft in pick No. 232: the Commanders steal Sanders and grade out a B.

The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Raheim Sanders, the No. 147 name on the board, sitting there at slot 232 like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jack Sawyer · DE-EDGE · rank 27
A straight-up fair deal on Jack Sawyer at pick 25, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Aireontae Ersery · OT · rank 58
By-the-book stuff, Aireontae Ersery at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 71
Nothing to complain about; Deone Walker went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.25 · Pick 126 · Mello Dotson · CB · rank 130
Mello Dotson in the 126th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.9 · Pick 147 · Jake Majors · C · rank 95
Jake Majors in pick No. 147 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.24 · Pick 199 · Theo Wease Jr. · WR · rank 202
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Wease Jr.. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.18 · Pick 232 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 147
Raheim Sanders at No. 232 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
R7.25 · Pick 239 · Jamon Dumas-Johnson · LB · rank 200
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in slot 239 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.32 · Pick 246 · Brant Kuithe · TE · rank 208
Taking Brant Kuithe in the 246th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
