The phones were a trap the Eagles kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Polk. Ross Dwelley gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
Taliese Fuaga at Round 1, Pick 22 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good price on Calen Bullock in the 50th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at slot 54 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Edgerrin Cooper at No. 75 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steal is underselling it; Ja'Lynn Polk at pick No. 85 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tykee Smith at the 97th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Zak Zinter in pick 98 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Khyree Jackson at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nice patience on Kris Abrams-Draine, who had no business lasting to the 132nd overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; MarShawn Lloyd went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy little value on Jordan Travis in pick No. 142, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Keith Randolph Jr. at slot 166. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Knox at No. 179, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Javon Baker slid further than he should have, and Round 6, Pick 14 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
