Somebody took the Eagles to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Put together, it is a D.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. It is not that Wilson is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first. Getting Hadden where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
Cooper DeJean slid further than he should have, and the 22nd overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kamren Kinchens in the 38th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tyler Guyton slipping to pick 50 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 20, where Chop Robinson graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Nubin at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Jermaine Burton was the payoff at slot 66. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 3, Pick 3 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and quarterback still to address, they spent slot 68 on Payton Wilson, a linebacker they were not short of.
The board fumbled Patrick Paul all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in the 71st overall pick: Adisa Isaac for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Malachi Corley in the 84th pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cooper Beebe is a better player than pick No. 90 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Gabriel Murphy at No. 106 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kamal Hadden at pick 178 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Jaylen Wright here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick 223 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Blake Watson at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
