The real work happened on the phones. The Giants fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. If Pratt pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. Adding Richie Grant by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.13
· Pick 13
· Rome Odunze
· WR
· rank 9
In the 13th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.7
· Pick 39
· Kamari Lassiter
· CB
· rank 41
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kamari Lassiter. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.11
· Pick 43
· Chris Braswell
· LB-EDGE
· rank 42
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 11. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.12
· Pick 44
· T'Vondre Sweat
· DT
· rank 48
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at the 44th pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.15
· Pick 47
· Kingsley Suamataia
· OT
· rank 58
A premium they did not need to pay, Kingsley Suamataia a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.6
· Pick 70
· Cooper Beebe
· OG
· rank 74
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.8
· Pick 108
· Blake Corum
· RB
· rank 83
Taking Blake Corum in Round 4, Pick 8 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.13
· Pick 113
· Michael Pratt
· QB
· rank 137
They reached a country mile for Michael Pratt at the 113th pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.4
· Pick 140
· Josh Newton
· CB
· rank 123
Nice patience on Josh Newton, who had no business lasting to the 140th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
R6.10
· Pick 185
· Curtis Jacobs
· LB
· rank 196
They paid a round early for Curtis Jacobs in slot 185, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
