The Giants went off the board in a big way for Braelon Allen, 48 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McKinstry. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Steal is underselling it; Kool-Aid McKinstry at slot 39 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyler Guyton in the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked T'Vondre Sweat enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 47. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Spencer Rattler well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had cheaper options than Darius Robinson at the 108th overall pick, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Braelon Allen in the 111th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cole Bishop in No. 140. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javion Cohen in slot 142 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Jaylan Ford at par in the 185th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for AJ Barner in pick 201, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
