Every other box got a look, but tight end did not. The Giants will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If Taylor III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They banked enough surplus on Eichenberg to cover a lot of smaller sins. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked J.J. McCarthy enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 39. A need, and now a little less of one.
Chop Robinson at pick 42 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Tyler Guyton in the 47th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Javon Bullard in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Leonard Taylor III a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tommy Eichenberg at No. 143 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Hart in Round 5, Pick 12. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Isaiah Davis at the 185th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
