The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Max Melton, the Round 5 slot, roughly 30 picks past where he belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Sweat left real value on the table behind him.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Chop Robinson at the 39th pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in pick 43, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Troy Fautanu at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 15 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Javon Bullard in No. 70 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Blake Fisher went about where he belonged in slot 107. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Max Melton at pick No. 143 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Miyan Williams in the 185th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
