The one they had to fix is still broken. The Giants left interior defensive lineman untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
However the rest shakes out, McCarthy at that price is a win they earned. If Foster pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 10 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
A tidy little value on JT Tuimoloau in slot 37, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Troy Fautanu at par in Round 2, Pick 10, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
J.J. McCarthy is a better player than No. 54 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in the 69th pick, where Cooper DeJean graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Hart. It fills a real need, too.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in pick No. 142 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reasonable price with a little left over, LaDarius Henderson in the 183rd overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Bryce Foster at pick 220 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
