You can hear the double-takes from here. The Giants took Jordan Travis at the Round 3 slot, roughly 20 spots before his name belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Smith pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Dallas Turner is a better player than the 34th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 5, where T'Vondre Sweat graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Denzel Burke at the 54th pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Kamren Kinchens in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Amarius Mims at slot 69 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Travis in the 70th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tommy Eichenberg at pick 105 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
Jack Nelson at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Ainias Smith, who had no business lasting to slot 183. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
