The one they had to fix is still broken. The Giants left tight end untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Landing Gore Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Sweat reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Rome Odunze in pick 8 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Chop Robinson at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
J.J. McCarthy in slot 43 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 47 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in the 70th pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Max Melton in Round 4, Pick 8; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on James Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Cedric Gray in No. 142, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Frank Gore Jr. is a better player than pick 185 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
