Thirty-one other rooms let T.J. Tampa slide, and the Giants were the ones holding the card at the Round 3 slot. Highway robbery. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The cost of the Allen reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Guyton in No. 39 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, J.J. McCarthy went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They jumped the gun on Chris Braswell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, T.J. Tampa in pick No. 70, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Leonard Taylor III in Round 4, Pick 8 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; James Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Braelon Allen at the 142nd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylan Ford. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
