The trade table was a mismatch, and the Giants were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
Robinson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board fumbled Chop Robinson all the way to pick 37, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Morgan. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cooper DeJean in pick No. 54 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kris Jenkins at the 69th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Troy Fautanu at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A quiet steal in slot 142: Jamon Dumas-Johnson for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Donovan Jackson at No. 143. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
