Dallas Cowboys

A masterclass at the trade table lands the Cowboys a B+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Chidozie Nwankwo in No. 248. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

That Henderson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Walter Nolen · DT · rank 12
A quiet steal in slot 25: Walter Nolen for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 18
You do not let a running back like Omarion Hampton reach pick No. 44 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 22
They will replay Jalon Walker at Round 2, Pick 23 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 17
Circle this one: Malaki Starks at the 76th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Kaleb Johnson · RB · rank 39
A running back of that caliber at pick 84 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.18 · Pick 119 · Elic Ayomanor · WR · rank 95
Elic Ayomanor at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 60
TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Jake Majors · C · rank 92
Somehow Jake Majors was still sitting there in pick 170, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.36 · Pick 173 · Shemar Turner · DL · rank 163
A slide stopped in the 173rd pick, with Shemar Turner worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson · OT · rank 247
A big swing on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at pick No. 186, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Addison West · OG · rank 180
Taking Addison West in the 209th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Jamaree Caldwell · DL · rank 281
Jamaree Caldwell at No. 220 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Chidozie Nwankwo · DT · rank 393
Chidozie Nwankwo in slot 248 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
