There is conviction, and then there is this. The Giants took Frank Gore Jr. a full 69 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
That Morgan pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 10 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Steal is underselling it; JC Latham at the 37th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
J.J. McCarthy in the 39th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Kalen King at No. 47 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Kamren Kinchens at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Jordan Morgan here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 105; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had Shemar Turner higher than the 142nd pick, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ainias Smith at pick 183 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Gore Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Justin Eboigbe at No. 228 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
