The tape said wait; the Giants did not. Frank Gore Jr. went at the 220th overall pick, a good 40 picks before the board was ready.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. However the rest shakes out, King at that price is a win they earned. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 10th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy bit of business in the 36th overall pick, where Amarius Mims graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They liked J.J. McCarthy enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 10. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper Beebe at pick No. 54, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kalen King at pick 69 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A slide stopped in the 105th pick, with Tyleik Williams worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: James Williams for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jack Nelson in pick 183 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 220 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
