The trade table was a mismatch, and the Giants were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
Getting Ford where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
If Williams pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Adding Mike Williams by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
A slide stopped in the 38th pick, with Jared Verse worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
J.J. McCarthy in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
A reach for Cooper Beebe in slot 47; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Patrick Paul all the way to the 70th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They liked Tyleik Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 75. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Rod Moore in No. 82 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at slot 106 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No drama and no debate, Jason Marshall Jr. went about where he belonged in the 143rd overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jo'Quavious Marks at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaylan Ford at pick 186 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
