You build a draft on nights like this. Troy Fautanu had no business being available in pick 142, and the Giants did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: safety settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A quiet steal in pick 36: Dallas Turner for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
J.J. McCarthy in the 37th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 54 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kamren Kinchens in pick No. 69. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Smael Mondon Jr. at Round 4, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Troy Fautanu in the 142nd pick, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on Ainias Smith, who had no business lasting to slot 183. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
