New England Patriots

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Milum: B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Wyatt Milum got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at No. 221.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Kelvin Banks Jr. · OT · rank 4
In slot 3 they get a blindside protector at fair value.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 28
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 39, where Emeka Egbuka graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Mykel Williams · DE-EDGE · rank 21
Mykel Williams in the 70th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Jahdae Barron · CB · rank 14
Jahdae Barron in Round 3, Pick 16 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.5 · Pick 106 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 44
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.3 · Pick 141 · Tory Horton · WR · rank 105
They robbed the room for Tory Horton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.7 · Pick 221 · Wyatt Milum · OT · rank 13
Taking Wyatt Milum in pick 221 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.9 · Pick 223 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 56
The board fumbled Dylan Fairchild all the way to the 223rd pick, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.21 · Pick 235 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 84
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 235 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
