The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Smael Mondon Jr. slide 114 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

If Greene III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.10 · Pick 10 · Tetairoa McMillan · WR · rank 6
In No. 10 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · LT Overton · DE-EDGE · rank 52
A reach on LT Overton in pick 39; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Benjamin Morrison · CB · rank 47
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Benjamin Morrison. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 88
Donovan Jackson in the 70th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Hollin Pierce · OT · rank 113
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Hollin Pierce. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 62
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Alfred Collins reach the 80th overall pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.5 · Pick 106 · Earnest Greene III · OT · rank 155
Earnest Greene III in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.3 · Pick 141 · Mason Taylor · TE · rank 102
Mason Taylor in slot 141 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
R7.7 · Pick 221 · Kaden Prather · WR · rank 241
They reached a country mile for Kaden Prather at pick 221, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.9 · Pick 223 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 109
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
R7.21 · Pick 235 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 277
A big swing on De'Corian Clark at the 235th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
