New England Patriots

Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Brooks: C+.

by Pats Hopeful · 2025 NFL Draft · 11 picks · 6 steals · 1 reaches

Future A

Somebody in the 238th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Tahj Brooks, the No. 115 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Reaching for Jackson left real value on the table behind him.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Tetairoa McMillan · WR · rank 5
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 26
Kenneth Grant at Round 2, Pick 4 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Tyler Booker · OG · rank 37
They took Tyler Booker at par in pick 38, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 85
Donovan Jackson at slot 67 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 40
Jihaad Campbell in No. 79 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Jermari Harris · CB · rank 90
Fair-plus on Jermari Harris, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.2 · Pick 103 · Elic Ayomanor · WR · rank 96
Good price on Elic Ayomanor in the 103rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.1 · Pick 138 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 81
You do not let a linebacker like Deontae Lawson reach the 138th overall pick and blink. They did not. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.3 · Pick 219 · Brashard Smith · RB · rank 104
They robbed the room for Brashard Smith here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Jonah Monheim · C · rank 212
A slide stopped in pick No. 220, with Jonah Monheim worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Tahj Brooks · RB · rank 115
Somehow Tahj Brooks was still sitting there in slot 238, and they pounced on premier running back value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
