New England Patriots

Larceny in slot 219 lands the Patriots a B-, Neal and all.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Devin Neal got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at Round 7, Pick 3.

If Webb pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Tetairoa McMillan · WR · rank 5
In pick No. 7 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Luther Burden III · WR · rank 20
They read the board right and Luther Burden III was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 4. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 85
Donovan Jackson in pick 38 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Omarr Norman-Lott · DT · rank 76
A conviction pick on Omarr Norman-Lott at slot 67 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Darien Porter · CB · rank 78
The board had Darien Porter higher than the 87th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 81
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Deontae Lawson worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.2 · Pick 103 · Luke Kandra · OG · rank 109
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke Kandra. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.22 · Pick 123 · Emery Jones Jr. · OT · rank 177
Emery Jones Jr. at the 123rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
R5.1 · Pick 138 · Quinshon Judkins · RB · rank 73
You do not let a running back like Quinshon Judkins reach pick 138 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Phillip Webb · DL-EDGE · rank 293
Phillip Webb at slot 190 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.3 · Pick 219 · Devin Neal · RB · rank 83
They barely believed it either: Devin Neal still on the board at Round 7, Pick 3. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Jeffrey Bassa · LB · rank 121
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Jordan Hancock · S · rank 193
Jordan Hancock at No. 238 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
