New England Patriots

The Patriots robbed the room for Singleton. Final grade: B.

The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, sitting there at the 217th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Tetairoa McMillan · WR · rank 5
Tetairoa McMillan at the Round 1 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · T.J. Sanders · DT · rank 27
T.J. Sanders in the 38th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 85
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Donovan Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Denzel Burke · CB · rank 64
They paid up for Denzel Burke at slot 55 when waiting would have done the job. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 56
Dylan Fairchild at pick No. 69 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Xavier Watts · S · rank 48
Xavier Watts in No. 77 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.4 · Pick 105 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 61
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at Round 4, Pick 4. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.15 · Pick 116 · Jack Bech · WR · rank 95
Jack Bech in the 116th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.21 · Pick 122 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 81
Taking Deontae Lawson in pick No. 122 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.6 · Pick 143 · Shemar Turner · DL · rank 170
Shemar Turner at No. 143 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 100
Steal is underselling it; Nicholas Singleton at the 217th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Jonah Monheim · C · rank 213
Good price on Jonah Monheim in slot 220, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.25 · Pick 241 · Elijah Arroyo · TE · rank 187
They robbed the room for Elijah Arroyo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
