The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, sitting there at the 217th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Tetairoa McMillan at the Round 1 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
T.J. Sanders in the 38th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Donovan Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid up for Denzel Burke at slot 55 when waiting would have done the job. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Dylan Fairchild at pick No. 69 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Xavier Watts in No. 77 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at Round 4, Pick 4. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jack Bech in the 116th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Deontae Lawson in pick No. 122 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Shemar Turner at No. 143 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Nicholas Singleton at the 217th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Jonah Monheim in slot 220, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
