Somebody in slot 217 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
A quiet steal in the 38th pick: Emeka Egbuka for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Booker at pick 47. A need, and now a little less of one.
Donovan Jackson in Round 2, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Omarr Norman-Lott at No. 69 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to the 77th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 78, where Deone Walker graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for Elic Ayomanor in slot 81, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malachi Moore at the 118th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Barrett Carter at No. 126 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Steal is underselling it; TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Nicholas Singleton still on the board at slot 217. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fair-plus on Jonah Monheim, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Nohl Williams at pick No. 241 squarely in line with his ranking. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
