You build a draft on nights like this. Nicholas Singleton had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 21, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
They will need Trapilo to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Aireontae Ersery this early at the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
They reached into another round for Jalen Royals, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyler Warren in No. 70 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wild overpay on Ozzy Trapilo in the 80th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Evan Stewart in slot 106. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Jake Majors here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Danny Stutsman in pick No. 221 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Somehow Rod Moore was still sitting there in the 223rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Nicholas Singleton in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
