Somebody in slot 223 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Trey Amos, the No. 60 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value.
Circle this one: Wyatt Milum at No. 39 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Royals. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Aireontae Ersery at slot 80 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Walter Nolen still on the board at pick 106. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Tre Harris at the 141st overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
They robbed the room for Trey Amos here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Kyle Kennard in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
