New England Patriots

The Patriots won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-.

The Patriots put a flag in the ground for Jasheen Davis, 93 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Starks pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Will Campbell · OT · rank 15
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Isaiah Bond · WR · rank 32
Isaiah Bond at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 18
Somehow Malaki Starks was still sitting there in the 43rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Jalen Royals · WR · rank 66
Jalen Royals in pick 70 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 70
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Deone Walker at No. 80 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.5 · Pick 106 · Ozzy Trapilo · OT · rank 137
They talked themselves into Ozzy Trapilo at slot 106, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.3 · Pick 141 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 130
Domani Jackson slipping to the 141st pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.7 · Pick 221 · Jasheen Davis · DL-EDGE · rank 314
A wild overpay on Jasheen Davis in slot 221, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.9 · Pick 223 · Terrance Ferguson · TE · rank 219
They did well to land Terrance Ferguson in the 223rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.21 · Pick 235 · Garrett Dellinger · OG · rank 263
Value said wait; Garrett Dellinger in Round 7, Pick 21 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
