This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Harold Perkins Jr., the No. 128 name on the board, stolen at No. 221.
Reaching for Trapilo left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid up for Aireontae Ersery at the 39th pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Deone Walker in pick 70; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Evan Stewart at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ozzy Trapilo. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Mello Dotson in No. 141 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Harold Perkins Jr. still on the board at the 221st overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They read the board right and Miles Frazier was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 9. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Terrance Ferguson slid further than he should have, and pick No. 235 is lovely value for the tight end. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
