You could see the war room lean forward. Johnny Dixon at pick 216 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Every board in the league had Jones lower, and that gap is the story. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Payton Wilson in No. 56 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Christian Jones in slot 129; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Tahj Washington enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 38. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Dylan Laube at pick 177 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Johnny Dixon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nathan Thomas in pick No. 232. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tatum Bethune in No. 233 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Matthew Jones at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
