Somebody in slot 89 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Jake Slaughter, the No. 55 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Llewellyn reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Circle this one: Dillon Thieneman at slot 57 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
They let Blake Miller come to them and pounced at the 60th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Jake Slaughter still on the board at No. 89. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Max Llewellyn in pick 129 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jeff Caldwell at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Thaddeus Dixon at Round 7, Pick 23 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Miles Kitselman is a better player than the 241st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
