The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Buccaneers reached some 42 spots for Brett Norfleet, and value like that does not grow back.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Getting Hecht where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Rodriguez pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Anthony Hill Jr. at No. 46 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 77 on Jacob Rodriguez with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
A want over a need in slot 102: Harold Perkins Jr. adds a linebacker while interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
Sam Hecht in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a cornerback like Hezekiah Masses reach the 155th overall pick and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Jeff Caldwell in pick No. 195, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brett Norfleet in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
